Who we are

Breathe Battery Technologies is a spin-out from Imperial College London developing a new class of battery management software. The company was founded in pursuit of universally clean air and a sustainable earth. Today Breathe is actively developing the technologies to improve battery safety, performance and cost, to support the electrification of our planet’s transport systems.

We create battery state estimation and control methods that provide deep insights into battery health. We use these insights to improve the battery and to provide great software products to the automotive and consumer electronics markets.

What you will be doing

You will form part of the core technical team and will be designing and developing advanced battery management solutions for applications in automotive and consumer electronics. You will be developing, testing and validating battery management methods, working closely together with the commercial team to deliver our solutions to clients. You will be taking a leading role in developing our state-of-the-art testing platform. You will also work closely with our software engineers to deploy and develop new algorithms.

Your responsibilities will include

  • Analysing battery test data & communicating outcomes

  • Managing our battery testing platforms and their development

  • Managing customer projects and ensuring their timely delivery

  • Supporting development of new battery state estimation methods

  • Collaborating with the commercial team to define future product strategy

  • Supporting business development

  • Working on industry/academic joint projects

  • Building relationships with key suppliers

  • Any additional work that may be deemed from time to time to be critical to product or company success

What we are looking for

  • Experience in battery engineering, specifically an understanding of battery performance and degradation mechanisms

  • Hands-on experience with common battery testing systems

  • Programming language experience: MATLAB and Simulink

  • Experience with real-time testing is a bonus, but not essential

  • Programming experience with embedded systems is a bonus, but not essential


  • PhD or masters in highly relevant area
