Who we are

Breathe Battery Technologies is a spin-out from Imperial College London developing a new class of battery management software. The company was founded in pursuit of universally clean air and a sustainable earth. Today Breathe is actively developing the technologies to improve battery safety, performance and cost, to support the electrification of our planet’s transport systems.

We create battery state estimation and control methods that provide deep insights into battery health. We use these insights to improve the battery and to provide great software products to the automotive and consumer electronics markets.

What you will be doing

You will form part of the core technical team and will be working on implementing and integrating advanced battery management solutions into motorsport, automotive and consumer electronics applications. You will be developing and managing our embedded systems, helping us to deploy innovative algorithms on state-of-the art hardware. You will be responsible for the development and maintenance of our real-time control prototyping platform, collaborating closely with battery and control engineers.

Your responsibilities will include

  • Independently developing embedded solutions based on high-level requirements

  • Integrating advanced battery estimation and control algorithms in diverse hardware platforms

  • Supporting the development of new battery state estimation and control methods

  • Managing the requirements of embedded projects, ensuring reliability and compatibility across our product line

  • Working on industry/academic joint projects

  • Any additional work that may be deemed from time to time to be critical to product or company success

What we are looking for

  • Experience in embedded software engineering, with experience in different microcontroller/System on Chip architectures

  • The ability to independently and proactively take a project from requirements to a solution

  • Some experience in electronics hardware (PCB) design

  • Programming language experience: MATLAB/Simulink, Embedded C/C++, Python

  • Experience with real-time control is a bonus, but not essential

  • Experience with batteries is a bonus, but not essential

  • A proactive and pragmatic approach to making things work


  • Bachelors degree or higher in highly relevant area
